For paraplegia, amputation, fracture and other patients among earthquake casualties, wheelchair is an important tool to help you improve your self-care ability, go to work and return to society in different time. Two days ago, I happened to pass through a rehabilitation shop. I went in and asked questions. There were more than 40 kinds of wheelchairs in different specifications and models on sale in the shop. How to choose a suitable wheelchair for yourself?

Wheelchairs include ordinary wheelchairs, unilateral driving wheelchairs, standing wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, reclining wheelchairs, competitive wheelchairs, and specialized amputation wheelchairs (large wheels are positioned behind to maintain balance), etc. Ordinary wheelchairs are also divided into solid tire wheelchairs with large front wheels and small rear wheels for indoor use and pneumatic tire wheelchairs for outdoor use.

Wheelchair selection should take into account the nature and degree of disability of the injured, age, functional status of the whole body, place of use, etc. If the injured person can't control the wheelchair by himself, he can choose a simple wheelchair to be pushed by others. The upper limbs are basically normal, such as amputated limbs, lower paraplegia and so on. The pneumatic tyre wheelchair with handwheels in the ordinary wheelchair can be selected. Wheelchairs with grippers on wheels are optional for those with strong upper limbs but paralysis of fingers.

Please refer to the following suggestions:

Seat width: hip width, 2.5-5 cm on each side.

Seat Length: After sitting back, the back of the knee joint is 5-7.5 cm away from the front of the seat.
