Precautions for using a wheelchair

1. Pay attention to safety. When entering or exiting the door or encountering obstacles, do not use a wheelchair to hit the door or obstacles (especially for the elderly, most of whom have osteoporosis and are prone to injury).

2. When pushing a wheelchair, instruct the patient to hold onto the armrest of the wheelchair, sit back as much as possible, and not lean forward or get off on their own; To avoid falling, add a restraining strap if necessary.

3. Due to the small front wheels of the wheelchair, encountering small obstacles (such as small stones, small grooves, etc.) during rapid driving can easily cause the wheelchair to suddenly stop and cause the wheelchair or the patient to tilt forward and harm the patient. Wheelchair pushers must be careful, and if necessary, they can use a backward pull method (due to the large rear wheels, the ability to overcome obstacles is stronger).

4. When pushing a wheelchair downhill, the speed should be slow, and the patient's head and back should lean back and grasp the armrest tightly to avoid accidents.

5. Pay attention to observing the condition at all times; If the patient has lower limb swelling, ulcers, or joint pain, they can lift the pedal and place a soft pillow on it.

6. When the weather is cold, pay attention to keeping warm. Lay the blanket straight on the wheelchair, and wrap it around the patient's neck with a safety pin. At the same time, wrap it around both arms with a safety pin fixed on the wrist, and then wrap the upper body. After taking off the shoes, wrap the lower limbs and feet with the blanket.

7. The wheelchair should be checked regularly, lubricated regularly, and kept in good condition. It is important to be careful and regularly undergo physical examinations to avoid carelessness.
