Electric wheelchair motors are divided into brushed motors and brushless motors
When the brushed motor works, the coil and commutator rotate, but the magnet and carbon brush do not rotate. Alternating the direction of the coil current is accomplished by a commutator and brushes that rotate with the motor.
The brushless motor is a brushless DC motor consisting of a motor body and a driver, and is a typical mechatronic product. Since the brushless DC motor operates in a self-control mode, it will not add a starting winding to the rotor like a synchronous motor with heavy load under variable frequency speed regulation, and will not produce oscillation and out of step when the load changes.
Brushed motors are traditional products with relatively stable performance. The brushless motor is an upgraded product, and its life performance is better than that of the brushed motor. However, its control circuit is relatively complex, and the aging screening requirements for components are relatively strict. Although the motor has a long life, the control circuit is prone to failure. Therefore, the selection of brushless motors must undergo strict reliability testing to ensure quality.
In principle: a brushed motor means that the motor has a DC input, and the controller that controls it can adjust the speed as long as it provides a large or small current; while the brushless motor is actually a three-phase AC motor, which relies on the controller to convert DC. into three-phase alternating current, and commutate according to the sensor Hall element in the motor, so that the motor can run normally. From this principle, brushless motors have a longer service life and save more power than brushed motors, but the controller is more expensive than the brushed controller.
