Hand wheels and push handles for wheelchairs

The diameter of the wheelchair hand rim is generally 5cm smaller than the large rim. Add a smaller diameter for option when actuating the hemiplegia with one hand. The hand wheel is generally pushed directly by the patient. If the function is not good, it can be modified in the following ways to facilitate driving: add rubber to the surface of the handwheel to increase the grinding force; add a push handle along the circumference of the handwheel.

There are the following types of push handles:

1. Horizontal push handle. For C5 spinal cord injury. Therefore, the biceps are healthy, put the hands on the push handle, and the push cart can move forward with the force of elbow flexion. You can't push without a horizontal push rod.

2. Push the handle vertically. For rheumatoid arthritis with limited mobility in the shoulder and hand joints. Therefore, the horizontal push handle cannot be used.

3. Thick push handle. It is used for patients with severely limited finger movement and difficulty making a fist. It is also suitable for osteoarthritis, heart disease or elderly patients. (Hand wheelchairs are powered by hands instead of handwheels)
