Use Skills of Wheelchairs (I) - Driving Wheelchairs

Service personnel need to ensure that wheelchair users will drive wheelchairs and understand the precautions of wheelchairs on different roads, so as to better play the role of wheelchairs, make users more independent, and reduce the burden of nursing staff.

(1) Driving wheelchair

When driving a wheelchair on the flat ground, try to maintain a neutral position, hold the handring with both hands, and push forward to go straight. To save more effort, it can be pushed from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock.

(2) Change direction

In the wheelchair driving and stationary state, the direction can be changed by controlling the hand ring. If one hand is used to fix one side wheel and the other hand is used to push the opposite side wheel, the fixed wheel can be used as the axle to steer the wheelchair; if one side of the wheel is pushed forward and the other is pushed backward, the wheelchair can turn. Take turning left as an example, put the left hand behind the handwheel ring, turn the left arm outward, transfer the weight to the inside of the left wheel, turn the left wheel backward with the left hand, and turn the right wheel forward with the right hand in normal posture.
