Wheelchair users often need to transfer from wheelchair to bed, training platform, toilet, bathtub and car, or do the opposite direction conversion, which is called wheelchair transfer technology. Only when the user can master the wheelchair transfer technology skillfully, can it be possible to truly realize the daily life of self-care, engage in appropriate work, achieve the goal of self-reliance to achieve the transfer should choose the safest and easiest transfer method. The content of transfer technology mainly includes:

Independent transfer

Most patients with hemiplegia, paraplegia and poor balance function are trained to transfer wheelchair to bed independently. Hemiplegia and amputation of one lower limb with one healthy limb often adopt the method of shifting the direction of standing first and then turning, such as oblique angle method (wheelchair and bed form 30-60 degrees), right angle method (wheelchair and bed form 90 degrees). Paraplegia of both lower extremities or poor muscle strength often use transfer plate sliding method to complete the transfer.

(2) Partial help transfer

For example, when using oblique and right angle methods to transfer, the caregiver fixes the user's knees and feet with his knees and feet, holds the user's waistband with both hands or holds both hips, or puts one hand under the hip, and the other hand on the scapula upward.

Independent Transfer with Auxiliary Devices

(3) All help transfer

Two people transfer quadriplegia users: Nurses stand behind the user, hands extend from the armpit to grasp the user's crossed forearm, another nurse stands on the user's side, one hand under the user's thigh, the other hand under the lower leg, one person orders to lift and move to the wheelchair at the same time, gently down.

One person transfers the quadriplegia user: Nurses use both feet and knees to hold the user's feet and the outside of both knees, grasp the waistband with both hands or hold the user's buttocks, lift upward to complete the transfer.

Before transferring wheelchair users, nurses explain the sequence of transfers to users in advance and gain trust in order to coordinate efforts.
