Users who can't drive wheelchairs by themselves need nurses to assist in driving. How to use wheelchair easily when encountering steps, stairs or ramps?

(1) Pushing wheelchair up and down steps

There are two ways to push the wheelchair up and down the steps. One is to face the steps, tilt the wheelchair backward with the help of foot tilting pole, push the wheelchair down until the wheelchair crosses the steps, continue to push forward so that the wheelchair is tangent to the steps, and then raise the wheelchair; the other is to turn the wheelchair back to the steps, the caregiver lifts the front wheel, and the wheelchair falls back to the steps with both hands at the same time to lift the wheelchair up the steps.

There are also two ways to push the wheelchair down the steps. One is to face the wheelchair to the steps, first tilt the wheelchair backward, then push the wheelchair forward slowly to make the wheelchair fall to the ground, then put the wheelchair flat. The other way is to let the wheelchair back to the steps. The caregiver first steps down, pulls the wheelchair back to the edge of the steps, so that the wheelchair slowly moves along the steps, then raises the wheelchair backwards, and slowly puts the wheelchair flat after the wheelchair completely leaves the steps, and turns the direction. Keep going.

(2) Uphill and downhill of wheelchair

When pushing a wheelchair uphill, the user leans forward and must go straight in the forward direction. When downhill, it is better to let users face the rear, that is, face the back, that is, face the slope, the caregiver controls the speed of the wheelchair well, wheels with driving brake can use driving brake to control the speed when downhill, and wheelchair users can face the front in the downhill process when the slope is small. The caregiver must hold the handle tightly and control the speed well.

(3) Pushing wheelchair up and down stairs

Wheelchair pushing up and down stairs requires the cooperation of users and nurses. When going up stairs, push the wheelchair to the staircase entrance, let the wheelchair back to the staircase, tilt back the wheelchair and pull the wheelchair to the first step. The user holds the hand ring with both hands and pulls the wheelchair upward with the help of the caregiver to make it roll step by step on the staircase. When walking down stairs, the wheelchair is facing the stairs. The wheelchair is tilted back to the balance point and pushed to the edge of the stairs. The user holds the hand ring with both hands. When the caregiver pushes the wheelchair down the stairs, the resistance is applied appropriately. The wheelchair falls step by step with the cooperation of the two persons.

Warm tips: After the nursing staff or patients'family members have finished reading, please practice strictly according to the above steps and requirements, master the skills skillfully, ensure safe and reliable operation before moving the wheelchair on the ramp, steps or stairs.
